Trackshoes Success!
The Parksville and District 69 Team of Adults with Developmental Disabilities attended the 40th Annual Operation Trackshoes event held at the University of Victoria June 11-13.

These community ambassadors for Parksville once again returned victorious in the adult division for the 7th year in a row! Participating with over 500 competitors from regions throughout British Columbia, our team of 36 athletes excelled in the numerous events held during the weekend of celebrating community integration. The activities are designed to include all individuals and wheelchair participants in track and field events as well as swimming and recreational sports. The banquets and dances are highly anticipated as well as the opportunity to renew friendships and bond with other athletes and counsellors enjoying this memorable occasion. This year awards were presented to Parksville athletes, Holly Lin, Phil St. Luke and Joe Mollin for their long records of attendance celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Operation Trackshoes. All of the team stayed on campus at the UVic dorms which added to the "Athlete Village" experience. Our team included 8 Volunteer Coach/Counsellors all from the Parksville/Qualicum area supporting our individuals during this event packed weekend as well as assistance from over 600 volunteers from the Victoria region. The sun-filled skies even included a "fly-past" from the Snowbirds Aeronautical Team adding to the festival atmosphere.
Our Parksville and District 69 Team is most appreciative to the many organizations, groups and individuals from our region that ensures their inclusion in this outstanding event. Acceptance and support from our own community is cherished as much as our team's victory at UVic.
